About Us
The Dayton Southeast Weed and Seed Initiative is a five-year U.S. Department
of Justice (DOJ)-sponsored strategy with the goal to "weed out" violent crime,
drug trafficking, prostitution and gang activity in
east Dayton and work towards preventing crime from reoccurring by "seeding" those
neighborhoods with a variety of social and community oriented services.
In 2003, the southeast Dayton neighborhoods comprised of the Burkhardt, Huffman Historic, Newcom Plain and St. Anne’s Hill Historic and Springfield were designated
an official Weed & Seed
target area.
Because of the complexity of problems in this target area, the Southeast
Dayton Weed and Seed chose to have a separate Weeding
and Seeding site coordinators.
These site coordinators manage the Weed and Seed Initiative from offices
at the Montgomery County Sunrise Center facility.
This provides effective cooperation between the
community and local, state, and federal agencies into
a highly focused collaboration dedicated to improving
the lives of target area residents.
